Excavator attachments specials: maintaining tips for rotary turntable

The rotating turntable is one of the essential excavator attachments that comprises slewing ring, gearbox, center section and other components. Generally when we open the cover next to the base of the boom we can see the lubrication conditions of the large cavity ring gear and ring wearing conditions. The scraper seal at the section of the rotation center is gradually aging with the usage of the machine; therefore, the maintenance of the excavator attachments is quite important for the safety during the usage of the machine.

During the digging work of the excavators, with the dilution of water, the lubricating effect of the butter in the cavity will slowly be below the standard, which will aggravate the wearing pattern of ring. In addition, the long soak will remove the iron from the ring gear, eventually leading to the abnormal sound during rotation. And even worse, the ring gear loses efficacy.

It hence appears that the inspection and maintenance of excavator attachments is quite necessary. Usually rotary gear receives inspection every 2,000 hours or one year, so is the change of lubrication oil. The filling quantity of grease for a 20 tons machine is about 36 liters (two barrels). Open regularly the arm base and the square cover in front of the machine to check the situation of the ring gear and lubrication. The pouring water needs to be taken out by opening the cover from the bottom of the digging machine.

In the rotary bearing maintenance there is widespread misunderstanding that the lubrication period for this excavator attachment is the same as that of the arms, which needs to be lubricated every day. Actually, it will lead to the adverse effects. If the lubrication cycle is too short, there will be too much lubricating oil in the bearing, thereby burst the dust seal and leak. There are also contaminants coming into the bearing, damaging to the normal operation of the bearing. It is recommended that set every 250 hours as the lubrication period of swing bearing. The lubrication period differs according to different job sites, and the appropriate frequency is once a week.
